📌 Feature supportYou must have Box, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive connected to Polymer with an environment enabled to use the Files feature. |
Files is a dedicated list of the files contained in file storage connections in Polymer, and the details about their sensitive data and who has access to them.
File details
File details are displayed in the files table, the file detail sidebar, and the file detail page. The table lists all files by the date they were last modified. The sidebar shows a snippet of a selected file’s details. The detail page gives a full view of the details, entities, access, and activity surrounding a file.
Click on the Date modified or Date created in the Files table to open the File details sidebar. Click on View details in the File details sidebar or in the action dropdown on the Files table to view the file detail page.

You can see the Date scanned timestamp in the section header.
Current access
Current access displays the general access and individual users who have access to the file at the time the file was last scanned by Polymer in an incremental scan, a historical scan, or a rescan. You can see the Date scanned timestamp in the section header.
General access
General access refers to the broad audience that can access a file, set in the file storage platform. Polymer maps the general access settings available in file storage platforms to the following general access types:
- Public - The file is shared publicly, as well as anyone given individual access.
- Internal - The file is shared within the organization, as well as anyone given individual access.
- Restricted - The file is only accessible to the file owner and anyone given individual access.
The following table maps the platform access settings to the Polymer general access labels: Public, Internal, and Restricted.
Platform | Public | Internal | Restricted |
Box (learn more about Box shared link settings) | People with the link | People in your company | Invited people only |
Google Drive | Anyone with the link | Organization | Restricted |
Microsoft OneDrive | People with the link | People in the organization with the link | People with existing access, specific people |
Individual access
Individual access is the list of users who have access to the file. The email address of each individual user the file is shared with is displayed under the general access row. Users with access are tagged as internal or external.
- External - The user’s email address does not contain a domain that is associated with the organization or has been added to Organization settings > Domains.
- Internal - The user’s email address contains a domain that is associated with the organization or has been added to Organization settings > Domains.
Activity
The activity section contains all the tracking, remediation, alert, and nudge actions taken on the file via Polymer. This section includes all actions taken automatically by Polymer based on policies, those taken manually by Polymer Hub users, and those taken manually by employee users responding to nudge security events.
